Green Lane Primary Academy has admissions procedures which work in accordance with the national Schools Admissions Code and co-ordinates with the Schools Admissions Department of Leeds City Council. 

As of September 2014, the GLPA admission number (PAN) increased from 50 to 60 pupils further to due consideration. 

Starting Primary School

If your child turns 5 years old between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 you must apply for a school place between the 1 November 2017 and 15 January 2018.

Your child must be in full time education the term following their fifth birthday.

It is important that you submit your application within these dates.

Online Application

If you live in Leeds and have an email address, you can apply online by going to . The benefits of applying online are:

  • it is quick, easy and safe;
  • you will receive a confirmation email that your preferences have been received which  you should keep). Please note it can take up to 24 hours to receive your confirmation e-mail;
  • applications that are sent through the post can be lost, by applying online you are automatically provided with proof that we have received your application;
  • you will be able to log back in and check or change your details up until the closing date of 15 January; and
  • on 16 April you will be emailed with our offer of a school place, and will not have to wait for the post.

If you apply online keep your acknowledgement as proof. If you do not receive an acknowledgement email within 24 hours your application has not been completed successfully.

You should go back and make sure it is completed properly. Make sure you click the ‘submit’ button at the end of the form.

Paper Applications

You can also apply by completing a common preference form available in the documents section.

You can return the paper form directly to the Admissions Team at Children’s Services - their address is available via their website (link as above). Alternatively, you can hand it in at any school office. 

Allocation of School Places

The admissions policy for a school describes how places are allocated, that is how we determine who is offered a place. Details of the types of schools and information on their policies are in the booklet ‘starting primary school’ on the related pages. For the authority’s policy which applies to community and voluntary controlled schools there are a number of different priorities described. It is important that you also read the notes at the end of the policy which describe in more detail these priorities, in particular with regard to children who are in the care of the local authority or have been adopted form local authority care, issues regarding special education needs, siblings definitions, and distance definitions.


Offers of school places will be sent out on 16 April, if you have applied online this will be by e-mail. If you used a paper form your offer will be posted to your home address by 2nd class post. These can take up to a week to arrive.   You will be asked to accept the offer we give you. The information on how to do this will be in your offer letter.

When you have received your offer you must confirm your school place. To confirm the place you must contact the relevant school directly; the Admissions Team are unable to register your confirmation.

Please be patient while you wait for your letter. If you do not receive your offer letter within the timeframes outlined above please contact the Admissions Team using the contact details on this page.

If you missed the deadline for applications to start primary school or if you want to educate your child at home you must contact the Admissions Team using the contact details on this page and they will advise you.

You must apply for a school place using the address where your child lives for the majority of the time.

If you are unhappy with the school place you have been offered then you have the right of appeal. Please see further guidance within the appeals document at the base of this page. 

In-Year Applications

If your child is in another primary school and you feel that a change of school would benefit their education and / or general well-being you are entitled to apply for a school transfer.

From September 2013 the law will allow you to apply directly to the school or academy where you would like your child to go.  Contact the academy office to request a School Transfer application form.

Please note that there is no guarantee that a place will be available.  The Office Manager will be able to advise you of the situation as well as the different courses of action open to you.
