At Green Lane, we believe that leadership is an important skill for pupils to acquire. As a result, we provide diverse opportunities to take a lead in everyday learning. We have a school council who, alongside our pupil voice committees, evaluate our school and use Council meetings to discuss issues such as safeguarding, how pupils learn and gather pupils’ views on their well being.
Pupils are also delegated key roles such as Y5 Sports leaders setting up sports activities at lunch time for the pupils in Key Stage 1. This encourages children to take ownership of our school as a collective enterprise, which we all contribute to and try to improve. We also give the children in Year 6 the opportunity to do different jobs around school. Please see a timetable of the jobs that have been selected this year.
Classes vote for their class journalist, the journalists write the Green Lane Gazette; a termly newspaper written by the children for the children with the support of Miss Sykes.
We have a children’s Eco Committee; the children along with Mrs Hunt champion protection and improvements to our local environment .
Our school council members campaigned to be elected by their peers, using their persuasion and oracy skills. The School Council is run by Mrs Palin.
