The inaugural Garforth schools tag rugby event was held at Garforth Tigers this week. Seventeen of our children competed in two teams against the other primaries from our area. Despite the cold weather, everyone enjoyed the challenge and it was great to see so many children trying the sport for the first time. The tournament ran with a group format with the top two teams in each group playing each other in the final. GLPA entered two teams who both played some excellent rugby (winning some of their matches) to finish second respectively in their groups. Congratulations to the inaugural winners Strawberry Fields!
A huge thank you to Garforth Tigers who hosted and organised the event superbly. GLPA and all the Garforth Schools were shown wonderful hospitality and made to feel extremely welcome. All the children were very kindly given a free Tigers T shirt in their school colour as well as a complimentary free ticket to watch a Wakefield Trinity match. It was a really kind gesture which the children really appreciated. We look forward to returning for the 2020 tournament and giving more children a chance to experience tag rugby.
