On Tuesday 5th October the Green Lane KS2 Cross Country squad went to Brigshaw High School for the first round of the School Sports Partnership Cross Country Championships. In glorious weather the children showed fantastic character and determination to run their races with true Green Lane spirit! The Year 3 and 4 course was 900m long and the Year 5 and 6 course was 1500m and both had some challenging hills. The children’s behaviour was superb from start to finish and they were all a great credit to the school. One of the highlights for Miss Tang and I was seeing the children support each other with a wonderfully encouraging spirit.

Well done to the other teams that progressed to the next round which includes the Year 3 girls (Eve S, Ebony B-C, Iona A, Isabella S) and the Year 6 boys team (Haris F, Noah P, Zac B, Ben M and Riley R-H).

A special mention as well to Affy McF who has also progressed to the next round as an individual after finishing 5th in the Year 5 girls race.

Other stand out individual performances who came in the top 10 included:
Isabella S – 7th in the Year 3 girls race

Finley H – 2nd in the Year 3 boys race

Oliver L – 6th in the Year 4 boys race

Amalie M – 3rd in the Year 4 girls race

Iris K – 5th in the Year 4 girls race

Megan I – 7th in the Year 4 girls race

Evie G – 10th in the Year 5 girls race

For a number of Year 3 children it was the first time they had represented the school and here is what they thought:

Max McF – “I liked that you could compete against lots of people.”

Finn H – “It was fun – I enjoyed running!”

Eve S – “I loved how it took all your energy. It made me calmer.”

Isabella S – “It was great because I came 7th!!”
