Healthy Schools

Water Bottles in School

Based on the information contained on the Food Standards Agency website. It is recommended to parents/carers that children should bring a named water bottle, of the type that often comes with a lunch box, rather than the thin transparent bottles which are sold pre-packed with water in them from the supermarkets.

However, parents who prefer to re-fill the pre-packed bottles should be advised to check regularly for signs of any cracks, dents etc

Advanced Healthy Schools Award

I am pleased to announce that Green Lane has achieved the Advanced Healthy Schools Award! This is a fantastic accomplishment and a credit to the children and staff at the school. Special thanks go out to Miss Herrington with support from Mrs. Bean and Mrs Pitchfork for all the hard work that went into putting all the evidence together.

Also, special thanks go to all the staff and children for their contributions.

The A - Team

We have successfully implemented a child led active playtime system. The A-Team are responsible for choosing the activities, setting up the equipment and running them smoothly at playtime and lunchtime.

Dining Room Improvements

We have been very fortunate to receive a grant to promote healthy eating in our school. School Council were asked how they thought the money should be spent and they came up with some excellent ideas. As a result we have bought some new, colourful trolleys, a salad bar and jacket potato oven. The children are very excited about being able to choose their own salads and jacket potato fillings.

Sports Coach

We are happy to welcome Steve Wales from Premier Coaching to work with our children on Wednesdays. Premier Coaching is a company founded by ex professional footballer Leigh Bromby. They work closely with schools and professional sporting organisations, helping them develop their physical activity programmes.

Steve is a qualified primary school teacher who has 15 years experience working across the primary phase and has a proven track record of raising standards in education. He will be supporting us to improve our standards in physical education across school. As part of his role he will be creating physical development areas in Early Years, offering more opportunity for children to be active during lunchtimes and creating a a wider range of sporting competitions in and out of school.
